Cornerstone History
Since 1997, Cornerstone has been providing innovative counseling and court-approved classes for Adults and Teens in Ventura County. Prior to 1997, Cornerstone staff served Los Angeles County as leaders in Batterer's Treatment programs under CPS Domestic Violence Program (with Dr. Jose Cardenas). We have become recognized as a key resource by Ventura Law Enforcement Agencies. Community organizations in Ventura County also refer to for a variety of training and specialized educational workshops. We have grown in both staff size and programs offered since our inception. We still continuously look for ways to benefit the communities we serve.
Cornerstone Clinical Director Scott Barrella, MS is a licensed marriage and family therapist. He is a recognized leader in Domestic Violence Treatment and has trained thousands of licensed professionals. He has also appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show and provided expert advice to the Dr. Phil Show, NBC Dateline and been featured on several radio shows. Several celebrity clients have been referred to Cornerstone by media, legal professionals and the courts.
Our Emphasis on Responsibility
We teach Life Skills and Emotional Intelligence Strategies using the Life Skills Manual workbook (authored by Scott Barrella). Cornerstone provides an educational setting to constructively confront clients who are in denial or are excusing and justifying their cycles of abuse and destructive behaviors.
Programs Offered
Cornerstone offers court-approved Anger Management, Batterer’s Treatment, Parenting and Co-Custody (High Conflict) Parenting classes. We also provide professional counseling and coaching for teens and adults. Cornerstone is also approved to provide Supervised Visitation in child custody cases.
